Voorlopig geen Europees download verbod

De Europese Unie zal geen Europees verbod op het downloaden van muziek en films invoeren.

Afgelopen dinsdag werd het plan voor een Europees downloadverbod afgewezen, het plan werd in december 2006 ingediend door VVD Europarlementariër Manders.

Manders' plan was voornamelijk bedoeld om de productie en verkoop van namaakartikelen aan banden te leggen. Zijn voorstel was echter zo ruim geschreven, dat het ook betrekking had op het downloaden van muziek en films.

Onder Manders' voorstel zouden zelfs internetters die via een legale muziekdienst downloaden, ook als crimineel kunnen worden vervolgd. Het kan namelijk zo zijn dat legale muziekdiensten zelf de auteursrechten schenden, zonder dat internetters hier iets vanaf weten.

Het is onbekend of VVD'er Manders een nieuw voorstel zal indienen.
